Kiosk/EPOS Setup

What is EPOS?

EPOS (Electronic Point of Sale) is a system that allows an order to be placed and paid for without using QR codes to scan and order.

A staff member at a venue will be the one operating an EPOS device, and customers will tell them what they’d like to order - more like traditional restaurant, bar and cafe ordering than QR code ordering.

What is a Kiosk?

Kiosk ordering systems are designed to provide a convenient, easy-to-use option for customers who wish to order food without employee assistance.

What you need:

  • The device (iPad/iPhone) and its passcode (if set)

  • Wi-Fi credentials for the site

  • Sessions dashboard access

  1. Turn on the device.

  2. Connect to Wi-Fi

How to place orders on an EPOS device?

  1. Firstly, a Table must be selected.

  2. Select the item to add to the basket. If there are multiple sizes or modifiers/add ons you will be asked to select those.

  3. Add to the basket

  4. Return to the menu to keep adding items, OR select the shopping cart icon to see your basket.

  5. At the checkout you can still remove or edit items in the order.

  6. Select the payment method

  • Card - proceed to take a card payment from the customer

  • Add to tab - add these items to a customers tab for them to pay later

  • Discount - enter a discount code here to discount the basket total

Managing tabs on EPOS

You can action a few things from a tab which I have demonstrated in the following video:

  • Rename a tab

  • Move items from one tab to another

  • Check out the order history (all the orders placed against this tab)

As well as:

  • Print a bill

  • Checkout a tab

  • Apply a discount

Accepting orders on EPOS

On EPOS devices you can change how orders are accepted.

  • Go to Settings

  • Go to the EPOS tab

  • Tap on “Accepting Orders”

You’ll see three options:

  1. Manually accept orders on this device: Accept from this device and printer terminal

  2. Automatically accept all orders: No orders will be sent to the printer

  3. Manually accept orders on your terminal: Only bar & food terminals can accept and print the orders

Connecting an EPOS device to a card reader

💡 Each reader can be connected to one device at a time! Once a device is paired, it is locked to one device and cannot connect to another unless you choose to unpair the reader from the device.

To pair your device with your card reader:

  • Ensure your bluetooth is enabled!

  • Open Serve app

  • Tap on the “Settings” tab: bottom right

  • Tap on the “EPOS” tab: top right

  • Scroll down to “Card reader section”

  • Choose to “Scan for readers”

  • You should receive a Bluetooth notification asking you to pair. Choose “pair”.

  • This should enable the connection with the reader

Card Reader First Update

Once the reader has been connected to the device, the reader will need to update and usually this update can take between 5-15 minutes. Subsequent updates will take less time.
